Ullapool itself is well known for culture, activity, and life. Host to a book, guitar, beer, music and dance festival, there are also a number of galleries and bars that offer music and entertainment. Walks within and around the village take in the river, hills and woods that surround us, and within a short drive, you are into some of the least spoilt natural scenery and wildlife of Europe, including some famous mountains and beaches.
For those wishing to just relax and unwind, the local restaurants can take care of your food – some of which is fresh from the sea that we overlook, and enjoy the peace and more sedate way of life, fresh air, and friendly environment that rural Highlands are known for.
The loch and island beyond are home to dolphin, whale, seal and sea eagles. Boat trips from Ullapool harbor can take you to see these up close. The ferry from Ullapool crosses the Minch to the Outer Hebrides. The roads north and south are a joy to drive, winding through glens and mountains and stopping at coastal villages including Lochinver in Assynt, Achiltibuie in Coigach and south to Gairloch and Skye.
